Hi Folks,
I have added a new game to the GameFest Schedule. Due to its popularity and also thanks to the kindness of one of our game hosts, we are now running another game of Arkham Horror in the same time-slot as the original. So, if you missed-out on playing the Arkham Horror board game so far this time, you now have another opportunity. If you haven't already registered, please take a look at the schedule for Saturday morning: 9am til 1pm where you will find SLOT 8a "Arkham Horror". Register here or click on the Rego tab above. If you have already registered, but would like to change your selection for Saturday morning to incorporate Arkham Horror in Slot 8a, please email me directly about it (use the email address below). Cheers, Mark ======================================================== GameFest Brisbane Programme Coordinator Email: [email protected] ======================================================== Hi Gamers,
I certainly super-appreciate all the effort that our past and current year's game hosts have/are putting in as they volunteer to host games at the Fest.. These guys are the life-blood that keeps our event rolling (pun-intended)... If you haven't tried hosting a game at the Fest, I'd be delighted if you'd consider doing so this year..? We have plenty of space at the venue and plenty of slots available on the programme.. So, what does it take to host a game at GameFest you ask? Now, I know that many of our hosts go the extra yard to make their games especially memorable bringing props, making scenery, painting-up minis etc (I'm certainly guilty of this...), and although we really appreciate these efforts, it actually more like icing on the cake... The truth is; with minimal effort you too can be a GameFest host.. There's no requirement to be a professional public speaker, trainer or teacher and you will only to be talking to a very small audience of friendly, eager people anyway. :-) You also don't need to put in heaps of hours preparing for your game.. unless there is 'some assembly required' of course.. For the average board game, the main preparation you need is: to have played the game a few times.. so that you know it well enough to teach the basics to others. Reading through the rules is usually a requirement, but its not normally enough to teach the game to others. You should be able to teach the basics of the game in 10 to 15 minutes. If an explanation of the rules is longer than that then you might consider tabling something slightly less complicated. This will take the pressure off you and you can get playing ASAP. The other thing to decide is whether to host a 2 or 4 hour session. If this is likely to be your first time hosting, then I'd suggest you pick a shorter game - something that fits into a 2 hour timeslot or less. If you have played a game you like enough to want to introduce it to others, then please consider bringing it along and sharing the joy.. :-) It doesn't have to be a new game - older games are just fine.. especially if they're fun.. Don't be concerned that you aren't bringing the latest, greatest thing to the table.. Believe me, there are many games that have stood the test of time, and are still favourites among gamers everywhere.. In fact, on this year's programme for example we have "Battletech" (published in 1985), "D&D Basic/Expert" (published in 1981), and "Fireball Island" (a re-make of a classic published in 1986). Not every game will be to everyone's taste either of course, but that's fine too... because there will be a few folks who are keen to try something new or happy to play a classic old favourite. So, don't agonize over your choice. If you have a few ideas and can't decide, please feel free to drop me an email with your ideas.. I'm really happy to provide advice/feedback. So, if you feel like bringing something along for the friendly bunch of gamers we get at Game Fest every year, your contribution would be welcomed and greatly appreciated. Just get in touch with me using the information on the Contact page. Thanks in Advance, Mark McPherson Greetings gamers!
I have now opened registrations for GameFest Brisbane 2024 to be held from Friday the 26th of July until Sunday the 28th of July 2024. Please register at the Game Fest Brisbane website: https://gamefestbris.weebly.com/ The most relevant links are: https://gamefestbris.weebly.com/schedule.html - which provides a visual schedule of the events and the number of seats remaining in each game. https://gamefestbris.weebly.com/game-list.html - which provides a description of the various games being hosted at this year's event. https://gamefestbris.weebly.com/rego.html - which will lead you to the Registrations page. Please note that there are several streams running at once across the weekend, with several games running in each time slot. Some games occupy a 2-hour time slot, but most run for around 4 hours. You can choose to play as few or as many games as you wish, and you are otherwise welcome to visit the venue at any time during the weekend..even if you aren't playing games at that time. Based on the number of days you have decided to play games, please pay either the Full $26 or Partial $21 registration fee - STEP 2 on the Registrations page. This fee is simply to cover the hall hire. Game Fest Brisbane is a not-for-profit community event. Please take a look at the Schedule before registering so that you don't select two game sessions which are running in the same time slot. Please allow up to 24 hours for a response to your registration as the process is not automated. I will manually update the schedule on the website as seats fill-up and reply to your registrations submissions ASAP. Please note that some sessions on the schedule are already FULL, mainly because GameFest hosts (volunteers who give freely their time and energy to provide games for this event) are allowed early-access to register; in appreciation of their efforts. I hope to see you at GameFest in July! Hi Folks,
I have confirmed enough game hosts to open registrations for this July's event.. and so I will be doing that very soon.. I would however be very happy to hear from anyone who would like to host a game at the Fest..? I just thought I'd give it a couple more days in case anyone else is keen to host a game at GameFest. If you have any questions about hosting before you commit to hosting, please do not hesitate to reach out to me and I'll answer any of your questions... Cheers, Mark :-) I have confirmed the return of our sponsors from 2023:Both Cryptoloc and Planet Pickle have offered to sponsor Game Fest this year again.. and we warmly welcome their contributions in supporting our community event!
Thankyou Kahni and Jamie for your support! Warm Regards, Mark McPherson GameFest Brisbane Programme Coordinator Hi Folks,
I'm still looking at least one more Game Host to round-out the schedule for this year's event. At present I have a couple of slots open... (Friday night probably needs another session at least). If anyone is interested in hosting a game (in a 2 or 4 hour slot) at GameFest, please contact me... Cheers, Mark (GameFest Brisbane Programme Coordinator) As the time for Game Fest approaches, I am excited to announce another new game has been added to the GAMEFEST 2024 list:
"Aeon's End" - a co-op deck builder game where survivors fight against the alien occupation of Earth. ... The Schedule is *nearly* ready for release... I just need to confirm the slots with the hosts and I can give your guys the 'big reveal'..! :-) Cheers, Mark :-) |
